Nightfall Over Peridus
Dr George Parkinson
Death day – It had been seven years since he had been working at the estate and four since he had been ghouled. After diner he went back to his hospital to settle down for the night. As he was reading some literature, on farm animals and their anatomy, Leonardo came in carrying one of Joan’s Jaguars. It was in a very poor state; broken and bloody. Leonardo stared at the almost lifeless animal, whist George rushed around getting all his equipment bedside. It didn’t take long for him to diagnose the animal, however, several arteries were open and pouring out blood. After asking where Amicia was, Leonardo only answered when asked to get more help. He returned with several other ghouls that would normally work the land and house. Two newest ghouls fainted at the sight of the blood, but the others were used to that. They followed the instructions given to them, and after pumping the animal full of blood and feeding it vitae all the wounds were sealed. This wasn’t the first major accident with the animals he had encountered and George knew it wouldn’t be the last. A couple of day went by, and George spent his whole time tending to the beast. He would clean the wounds hourly, feed it vitae daily, and read to it throughout the rest of the time. On the fourth day it was Joan’s turn to feed the cat. George opened the cage and started redressing the wounds. Joan cut her finger and drained a few drops of vitae into its mouth. She started to walk away when the Jaguar opened its eyes and lashed out at George. There was nothing he could do, in the blink of an eye he was on the floor bleeding out from his left brachial artery. By the time he looked up for her she had gone. He felt a terror grip him. He scrambled to his knees and shuffled out of the cage, kicking the door to, and shouted for help. He wrapped up his arm, as best he could and moved towards the ice baths. He fell into the closest one and hoped that someone would find him. As his blood infused with the water he started to lose consciousness. He lay there grabbing his arm with all his strength. His eyes closed and everything remained silent and still.
Eva was the first person he remembers seeing. He remained in the bath but the chill of it had gone. His blood still infusing with the bath carried by the thermal currents, however, it was thinning out the more it infused. His mouth wrapped around a rabbit with two carcases motionless to the left of him. He thought he should throw up but didn’t for some reason. He dropped the rabbit, and applied pressure onto the wound and asked for his sewing kit. Eva walked out and left the rest of the Westwoods in the hospital. Joan gave him the kit and said “you’re welcomed”, and then left. Leonardo hovered by the cage, Amicia was inside it cuddling up to the big cat. Although it was still weak her presence made it stronger.
As I took away the dressing the blood had stopped pouring out. George poked it but the wound was still tender. He sewed it up, cleaned it, and applied another dressing. He asked what had happened and Leonardo said that he had been changed. Amicia said “you changed it, by saving my [insert Jaguar name here] you have shown yourself to be a great man, putting yourself before others”. “She is always like this” Leonardo explained. They explained what had happened and why they had let him live. However, they stressed that although he had be given the privilege to live he had not yet deserved the right to become part of the family. They stated that he had to do something exceptional. He asked what they had did but they wouldn’t say, they did however say that you are sworn to secrecy, only talking about you deeds with other family members.
